Our Reason 2 Peace ...

We will post on this page moments of thought during our day that once again remind us of a Reason 2 Peace.

Having rules does not make it right.

Picture
The earth had approximately 2 billion people living pre-World War II. A rough, but close estimate of those killed during WWII including soldiers, civilians and holocaust deaths is approximately 73 million. The insanity of war and those who wage it have led us to believe that war is a norm, something that is done from time to time for just cause. We at Reason 2 Peace disagree, peace is the norm for all causes. Even in the time of pure insanity during WWII 96% of the population survived.
Heartbreaking is that of that 4% - how many fathers and mothers were lost? How many inventors and innovators were killed? How many average people who live their life the best they can had their life ended?
The NORM is peace. Do not believe different.
I would say that most people on this earth would rather live in peace than in war. If this is true, why have we sent our children for centuries to kill and be killed? Who has taught us that war is a necessary evil? Who is responsible for teaching us that violence is acceptable, that killing another person in war is acceptable? Who created the rules of war, as making rules make killing acceptable? Reason 2 Peace is not here to name names or lay blame on the past but to change the paradigm of the future.
The NORM is peace.
Once we change the paradigm so that the greatest sacrifice a person can give is to LIVE for their country and family and not die for it, peace will come.

Reason 2: Our Daughter is our Reason 2 Peace.

Picture
Haven is an amazing young lady.  She shares the most incredible thoughts.  She loves girly things like makeup and high heels just as much as she loves playing soccer (football) with the boys at school.  She deserves a life of peace.

Reason 1: Our son Barrett.  Is there any greater Reason 2 Peace?

Picture

Being present for our children is the greatest Reason 2 Peace there is. When a mom and dad see this image for the first time it is truly life changing.  No parent wants to lose their child to war.  We must make a commitment to each other that Peace is more important than war.

We are almost there.  Peace happens globally more on a daily basis by far than war.  Think about it.  How many areas of the world are at war right now?  How many areas of the world are at Peace right now?
We are pretty close already to peace.

Yes we've had enough.

Sharing a moment with people you just met.

Picture
We met so many amazing people living in America.  We traveled from East to West and North to South and continued to smile and laugh with people.  This is no different here in Asia as we live and travel.  On a trip to Kratie, Cambodia we met a group of children swimming and took this picture.  When you smile and say hello, it is easy to make a moment.  This is a Reason 2 Peace.

A dorito,  also known as a peep hole.

Picture
Tonight at dinner my daughter Haven asked us, Why doesn't our other door have a dorito?  We all just started laughing.  This is an amazing Reason 2 Peace.  A moment we spent together that we would not have wanted to miss for anything.

A night with family and friends.  A Reason 2 Peace.

We all deserve a life of Peace.  A Reason 2 Peace.

Peace.  Our plan is developing and will be released on October 11, 2012.  As we travel around Cambodia, we continue to meet people with amazing hopes and dreams.  Cambodia is emerging from a brutal recent history and is a testament to the spirit of humanity.  But why should people be asked to rise from a murderous past?  People deserve more and we have a plan to avoid repeating this, they must have this Reason 2 Peace.

Grandpa and his Grandson

Picture
A Reason 2 Peace is when a Grandpa can show up for his Grandson's birthday.  It means that Grandpa is here. Grandpa was not taken by war.  How many grandchildren can or can not have their Grandpa at their 2nd Birthday to make them laugh and to celebrate with them?  This is a Reason 2 Peace.

This is where it gets simple.

Picture
This is where it gets simple.  No one.  No one.  No one should miss these moments with their children and their friends.  Eating Pizza.  Laughing.  Talking.  Having Fun.  How many fathers and mothers have missed these moments because they were lost to their families because of war?  Too many.  It is enough.  World Peace in 5 years or less.  Simple.                                           Our Reason 2 Peace~ 15 May 2012.

finding Beauty in unexpected places...

Picture
While driving around Phnom Penh, there are many instances of surprise.  On a recent tuktuk ride, I found this mural and two others...on a small, quiet street you can discover these three beautiful paintings upon simple walls surrounded by delivery trucks.  Are they painted by a person who lives there, by a professional or budding artist, were they done just to add color to an otherwise ordinary place, are they reminders of the beauty around us?
My Reason 2 Peace is beauty in unexpected places.

5000 years should be enough...

Picture
The first recorded war took place in 2700 B.C., amazingly enough in what is now modern day Iraq and Iran.  For the purposes of this website, the war in Iraq is one of those memories in our life that help us see the need for peace, for a Reason 2 Peace.  Where recorded history documented war may it also be the impetus to document peace.

The following excerpt is from curiosity.com
Discovery Channel The war appears to have centered on concerns about borders and resources. Around 2700 B.C., the Sumerian king Enmebaragesi led soldiers against the Elamites and won, looting the nation in the process. The records from that time aren't specific about Enmebaragesi's motives, but it appears that the Sumerian king was concerned that the neighboring nation of Elam might one day become powerful enough to attack the city-states of Sumer. His invasion may have been a preemptive strike to preserve the safety of his home.

Amazing coincidence ... 5000 years of coincidences.  It is also clear that wars, battles and violence against people happened for many thousands of years before this battle.  We think it's enough.  This is clearly a Reason 2 Peace.                                               Our Reason 2 Peace~ 12 May 2012.

Our daughter is named Haven ...

Picture
Richie Havens has been a voice of peace for us.  His music can make life move in slow motion.  Try it.  Put Richie Havens' version of "Follow" on you Ipod, put your ear plugs in and go sit on a park bench and watch the world slowly and beautifully go by.  Try it, and let us know how it went.

What songs bring you 2 peace?  Click on the Blog link above and share.

By the way, our daughter is named Haven and has met Richie.  His autographed picture hangs on her wall.

Richie also performs a song called, "They Dance Alone" ... it is         Our Reason 2 Peace ~11 May 2012.
